Brief
Heal offers timely and convenient medical care from caring and qualified doctors in the privacy of your own home, either through a doctor house-call or a video telemedicine call. The goal of the work was to rearchitect and refactor all of the mobile applications in order to deliver key flagship features in the pipeline and improving patient satisfaction rates. There was also a request in reducing the build-time-cost when developing new features.
Process
The applications, both iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin), were fully modernized with the latest tools and language features, allowing for features such as HIPAA-compliant Video Telemedicine, Secure File Exchange, Apple HealthKit, Apple Health Records, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. The booking user experience was optimized to reduce user steps and wait times between actions. We enhanced the software delivery lifecycle (SDLC) by implementing crash reporting (Firebase), and added automated UI tests to catch regression issues.
Result
The new mobile applications enabled faster delivery of new business objectives, increased number of healthcare service bookings, and raised both patient satisfaction and app store ratings scores. Doing this before the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, positioned the company to excel in a pivotal time in healthcare. The Heal applications received numerous praises and awards on the respective app stores, such as being featured as Apple App Store App of the Day. This adulation garnered the attention from new investors such as Humana, which invested $100 million into the telehealth start-up, and inclusion as in CNBC Most Disruptive Companies in the World 2020.

Through the tremendous hard work and experience in mobile application, and best-in-class healthcare platform service, the Consumer Technology Association (CES) awarded Heal the highly prestigious CES 2019 Small Business of the Year Award.
Given the high quality mobile experience for Heal's patients, the use of the latest Apple technologies and features on the iPhone and iPad, and the need for Heal's best-in-class healthcare service during the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple promoted the iOS Heal on its App Store through featurings such as The Doctor is In, and Connect with a Telehealth Provider stories. In addition, Apple promoted the Heal iOS application on the front page of the App Store as its App of the Day on March 16th, 2020.
