Brief

Dignity Health wanted to explore the use of mobile applications by doctors and health professionals in order to improve collaboration and communication across different functional units. They wanted to test this concept at the Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, California. It was noted that most doctors used an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.0 at the time.

Process

We interviewed health staff members and reviewed current workflows being followed. We developed functional prototypes that streamlined real-time access to the status of patients and events at the Emergency Room center, including use of push notifications to send hospital emergency codes.

Result

A prototype application was developed to be used by internal staff to showcase how productivity and communication could be improved in the hospital setting using the latest in mobile device hardware. The prototype showcased technology as a means to improved efficiency and teamwork, with the end goal of providing excellent care to patients in the community through improved delivery of services.
